Retro Blue ftw, fer sure.
Duno the blue one seems pretty ugly to me. Would much prefer a nicer one, but reskinning dynamicly in stylish will do if not :p
@Favourtism: the need to edit the html template generally just denotes a lack of css skill?
Additional css? i referring to creating a new css theme? There is plenty of markup to work with already, so unless you really do have incredibly poor css skills there should be no problem.
Although if it is just down to your lack of experience and general amateurish understanding of design and development techniques, it may not be in your best interests to simply whine and say people have no idea when they point this out. Instead, go learn css, it'll be much more helpful in the long run.
If you use the default css stuff then you still have them contained in <thead>'s and table rows making them look crap. When you learn to replace tables with div's (which vbulletin is also doing for v4) is when you get skins that don't look like the default crap that habbox and other vbulletin forums share (Structure etc).

Css is just as capable of styling a table as it is a div, the introduction of divs has nothing to do with limitations on styling, just better separation of it :)
Learn the basics of CSS/HTML/JS, then worry about specific software implementations like wordpress, IPB, VB, Joomla, phpBB, whatever else.
Anyway, if your not up to the challenge then so be it, i'm sure there are others who would be :)
From a member of staff point of view.
A) Stop the cat fight! You do need to edit templates for certain design aspects, no argument about it check with the established companies especially if you are moving certain objects around and adding in extra functionality.
B) My work load is already through the roof considering as I am looking after all 3.5 (hxl is still a site used for admin back end) websites, maintaining the current styles, maintaining the servers as well as managing new projects and dealing with future developments. Already I have a lot of miffed staff as I can never seem to meet deadlines as I am occupied dealing with priority issues.
On top of this I also deal with the bug tracker and user support via the ticket system, handling all SMS enquiries and issues (strictly for staff so don't pm me about when its going to be activated) and now also dealing with certain staffing issues.
C) Everytime we upgrade the forums I need to go through each customized template one by one decifering what has changed and having to add them in manually as reverting a template results losses in the design.
D) We have enough skins at the moment.
E) There are a few things in the making that I have the ball rolling on in the last 48 hours.
F) If we were to run one of these competitions it would probably have to be to replace a current style. Even so I would have to go through the style template by template to ensure that no malicious code has been passed into one of the templates that would open us to a liable attack a Job which I do not fancy doing.
OT: Mentor I am not sure what your skills are exactly but if it includes PHP and MySql then i may have a project for you that others have failed at in the past.
Drop me a PM if your interested.
I myself would like another non-habbo skin, with the 'who's viewing' gone it wouldn't have such a hit on the back-end...
sounds good for the web development people!
i better start learning css. :eusa_danc
