Confused right now. Drama or Media Studies?

Hey, i did drama for GCSE and i really enjoyed it. there is quite a lot of corusework both written and practical but its all good fun. Maybe drama would be a good choice for you to gain some confidence back after your illness but i don't know. I am doing Media for A level and i am really l,ooking forward to it :) the only reason why i didn't do media for GCSE was because it wasn't an option that we could take. I would personally say that doing drama would be best because then your taken three different subjects rather than double media.

Good luck with your choice and i'm sure you can chance your mind on which subject you want a couple of weeks in if you want to.

Depends, it's a tricky choice, I'd probably go for Media Studies (unless you want to be an actor? :rolleyes:)

Do media, dramas aweful, I had a rubbish teacher when I did it when I started school, she made it worser than it would have been without her.

i've heard it has a fair amount of coursework, although i've heard the same for media and food technology so it's no big deal. i know what you mean, how you said it would be better taking three options instead of two, but i just really don't know. it's going to be a long time until i'm recovered. a few years, atleast. i'm at the worst stage i have ever been right now, as i'm on the verge of hospitalization, so gaining confidence would be so hard, and i think it would be a too tricky subject to take while i'm like this. but i still have my doubts. gosh, this is such a tough decision.

i used to want to be an actress. i wanted to get into the acting industry, however now i've differed toward journalism. and with the food technology, nutrition is always an option - only if i were recovered, of course. +rep

In food, you got to choose what to make because its part of your coursework and we cooked for fun sometimes but our teacher told us what to cook but that was in like year 10! It's a written exam but 2 of your practical grades go forward, one scripted and one devised and they get put together with your coursework and your exam grade to come out with an overall grade if that makes sense. But for Drama you do need alot of confidence, you have to perform infront of your class mates and maybe a moderator. It also gets filmed on camera.

40% practical 20% coursework 40% exam

I had two practicals which I got A's in both, then got a B for my coursework and i think A for exam

oh right, i see. that sounds pretty good to me :) can i ask, just out of curiosity, what did you decide to make in your practical lesson? and are you allowed to choose what kind of dish to make? like sweet or savoury, dessert or main? etc. i think i'm going to go with media studies instead of drama, too. i simply don't have the confidence right now, and besides, i can always take drama out of school.

Good Idea. You do need alot of confidence for Drama! In year 10 i made things like stir fry and pizza just for the fun of it and for my coursework I only made 3 products because I did shoutcourse but for fullcourse you make 5. I made Cheesecake, Brownies and Victoria Sandwich, (all turned out AMAZING.) But at the begining of your coursework you have to state what sort of products you are making either sweet or savory. Yes if you confidence bulids up and you can also do it at college without doing it at GCSE aswell :D

Drama can get harder as it goes on, and boring as my friends have told me, Also it never really leads no where, where as media studies can help you do a bundle of things and it really intresting, and ive never heard anyone complain about media ;)

ah i see, thanks for letting me know. i think i'd choose sweet over savoury, as i prefer the baking side of cooking. if you need it, are you given help on practical work? obviously not everyone in the food tech. classes are going to be amazing cooks, so i'd hope so haha. and yeah, that's true about the drama thing. it's definately media studies i'm going for. that's it, haha:)
