Probably a silly question but I've never really understood why split ends are a problem? Isn't a split end just the hair splitting into two strands instead of one? If that is the case why is it such a big problem, serious question.

Because they make your hair look frizzy and thin like a broom. They break off if the split end travels down to the follicle.Quote:
