I quite like it. Apparently they don't look too nice when there are loads of them in one room though.

I don't mind the crystal patch as an item and I think it can definately be used to make some great rooms, like the diamond mine which was recently posted. I'll probably buy one just for the badge (although I doubt I'll wear it!) :P
