cheap insurance

Putting your parents as first driver and you as named driver is illegal and they are really cracking down on it. It's called 'fronting' and the companies are really wising up and will refuse to pay out and take you to court if they even have a hint of it.

Shopping around is the way though, also take into account your mileage since companies (some especially) offer decent discounts for people doing under 7000 or so miles a year.

I always find www.moneysupermarket.com gives me better quotes than the other comparison sites.

i've looked at multiple ones, all basically the same.
my stepdad looked at one with both of us on, was barely any difference.
who were you with your first year?

first year was with eCar Insurance, I think whatever you're gonna be looking at over £1000.

Have you bought the car yet? I mean you could look at getting a car in a different insurance group.

i knew to be expecting a lot, but more so £2000 than £3000 :l
a 206 is only group 3

Odd options to save some cash:

1. get a van
I got a van instead of a car and it was about £600 when I was 22 with 0 no claims. It's a car derived van so it's just a car with no back seats basically and no back windows. It's a 1.8 turbo diesel. It's like £400 fully comp for me now.

2. go classic
Any car made before 1985 can be covered by classic insurance which is considerably cheaper than normal car insurance. Get some quotes.

3. kit car?
Kit cars are very cheap on insurance but are generally pretty crap.

4. unexpectedly low insurance group cars
Skoda Fabia namely. You can get a 1.9 diesel or 1.4 petrol Skoda Fabia (same chassis as vw polo) and it'll cost a lot less than a polo on insurance. Fabias are group 1 (generally). Also smart cars are good on insurance but suck.
