However there is a difference between his personal life and the U.S. government being caught out telling lies, the only 'crime' Julian Assange is guilty of is telling the truth. This isn't about left and right as Iain Dale attempts to make out; its about the truth.
Assange is avoiding trial because it is nothing but a puppet show trial which has been thrown up as a way to get hold of Assange and make an example of him via the devious European Arrest Warrant. If the U.S./EU attempted to put me on show trial, i'd make is as difficult for them as possible.

Since when is rape not a serious issue? The claims of rape should be fully investigated and he should be put on a fair trial if so. Just because he's leaked things of great importance does not make him immune from anything, even if the timing and circumstances are coincidental. If he turns out to be guilty a lot of people are going to look like idiots and think how the victims must feel supposing that this crime did happen.
CLAIMS are different to the truth. it has already been decided once that they were lies..
I believe that the people should know what is happening with their government although I believe WikiLeaks may be pushing it a bit far by releasing documents which could damage countries foreign relationships.
But Julian Assange does have good fallback when he says that he's going to release even more documents if he's handed over to another countries government.
What on earth are you on about?
You originally put this...
First of all you said there's "probably no basis" behind the accusation, you are not a judge or a jury so you cannot make an assumption either way about it, there's your first instance of playing down the rape claims.Quote:

Just because he runs Wikileaks does not make the rape claims irrelevant what-so-ever. He may well be doing a good thing but that does not give him immunity, it is also a separate thing to his private life.Quote:

I never said that, again, stop inferring. I said they were irrelevant to the topic at hand which is that governments have been doing naughty stuff behind our backs which, for now, should be everyone's main focus.
There are other issues at hand, I would not regard 'rape' as serious as governments doing the naughty things that they have, just because someone claims they have been raped by someone in the public spotlight does not mean that you should disregard the things that have been leaked. What I am saying is, forget the rape because a far bigger and serious problem is what the governments have been doing and come back the the whole rape fiasco once that's sorted out.
