In the second image, did you add hair? Because it really does not suit it at all (the purples a different shade to the rest of the hair). The little magic beam, well you need to be able to do much more basic shading in order to do some sort of "magicy" effect. The best person I have seen to do this is roboevil in some wizard graphic I think. Also there's some black line missing in the arm.
You should step back and focus on the basics first.
