Aha, I read the message again - and realised the strongest point in makes.... "Vevo". I think GaGa used her 'personal' account or one via her record company before she went Vevo? Which would explain why it says total views on 'vevo' specifically.

If that is the case... that can be very misleading ;/

Oh I see. Some sites are reporting them just as "YouTube views" which is wrong, then...

When you think about it, it's not all that surprising seeing as Rihanna has been around far longer than Gaga and has several more hugely popular singles.
