I'm referring to walking patrols (should have made that clearer) rather than sitting in a car trying to catch motorists who speed and make a quick buck for the council. I mean we apparently have the most Police we've ever had yet you'll hardly see them patrolling neighbourhoods like they used to via foot. I think the car 'patrols' just show how out alienated they are from the purpose of the job nowadays, but it's not their fault granted.
They probably don't stroll around in most Neighbourhoods because crimes don't get committed there?
Response cars are primarily tasked with responding to 999 calls, not traffic violations, although you'll find that a percentage of people who commit traffic violations are the ones who generally have other more serious things to hide. Regarding foot patrols, I can only speak for London but I frequently see police walking the streets etc.
