I think with family it's already obvious that you love them and doesn't really have to be said. I mean I don't say it to my family cause I don't have to, they already know it and vice versa.
In a relationship it's a different thing and something that shouldn't be thrown around as it can have repercussions, either good or bad ones.

erm, rarely to my family, if it's anyone it'll be my mum 'cus she says it to me all the time. not so much to my friends, maybe when drunk when you get all lovey with them!! to my bf all the time ofc

Say it to my friend all the time. When I was younger, I'd say it to my "girl friend" (whoever it was at the time), because I honestly thought I did ... but I was just being young and foolish.
I've told people that I love someone a few times, it was a really intense, unrequited feeling. Possibly extreme infatuation, but I would have done anything for them, and I still would. It's been well over a year. How pathetic of me.

Now that I think about it I don't think I ever have. I don't really say it to my family either, I guess its because we know the love is there and it doesn't need to be said.

In Portuguese we use more then term ''I adore you'' when you talk to someone who is from your family or a friend, because saying ''Eu amo-te'' would just be weird and awkward, eve though kids now have this stupid ''amoro-te'' word which is the combination of the two and just makes me want to shoot every single kid once they say it. So ''I adore you'', I've said it a lot and I guess ''I love you'' too, since I've had a longer relationship, but I guess I was just way too young and stupid lol and anyways I never really gave importance to that word until a like two, three years ago, so yeah, when I'm not saying it in the joking way, I've never said it more than to one person.

Never said it to my friends cause i don't want people to get the wrong impression thinking that i fell in love with them which is awkward and no one has said it to me

I'm the odd one out in my family because I tend to hate the affectionate hugs and kisses that get passed around when someone leaves at a family gatherings. I love you is a weird one though, didn't even realise families said this to one another. It's sort of like an unwritten thing that you love most of them and love to hate the others. I've only ever said it in a jokey way when family members pick up on my lack of hugs!
As for dating, lolol no, isn't it the codeword to run away if you say it too early in a relationship and mine have never got to that stage so I've never said it.

Always done the casual 'love ya' or' loves' to my friends, I never ever go off skype to my mum or the phone (or saying goodbye irl) to my nan without saying I love them. They also say it back to me! My dad says it rarely to me, and I think my sister's said it once ever to me.
As for relationships, I've said it before, but looking back I'm not sure if I felt it or not. I guess I'm just questioning myself, noone can ever really know what 'love' is. Not only does it feel different for different people, it also feels different for every situation you say it in; who's to say I haven't been in love each time I've said it? I felt something which I defined as 'love' at the time. Granted, my attitude towards it has changed, but that doesn't make 'old me' wrong.
