Dropbox is also a pretty good, free alternative.. 5GB, And you can access the files on basically anything with an internet connection, I backup my most important stuff to iCloud, Dropbox and my external HDD, Just to be safe.

yea, I would definitely buy a good one. My friend had a free one from uni and it broke with like 50k of notes for her essays! She had to pay like 150 quid to send it away for a company to retrieve the information and email her it.
I've currently got 2/3 cheap ones (I actually paid nothing for them) which are 2GB and they're still working. However, I rarely use them - but this is a personal preference. I'd probably play it safe and get a named brand.
