seems to have the most adverse effects at each end of the spectrum (from forms of empowerment-> flat out cause of depression) for those that I know that use social sites an unhealthy amount. wouldnt say casual use has much effect and less so for those that only use the internet for information purposes n not actual socialisation. have you considered the informational side too? like, as the internet grows it becomes an easily accessible database of symptoms for self diagnosis of a vast array of new illnesses meaning people search for a label for their state of mind and everyone becomes hypochondriacs, faking some symptoms to fit into a specific category and as a result end up actually developing real ones. definitely think increased exposure to knowledge of an illness can increase levels of easily replicated aspects of mood and personality disorders specifically.
