I think that the driving age of 17 is fair because before I turned 17, I never though I would be able to learn how to drive, much less pass my test. If does go up to 18, it is the legal classification of adulthood, and it would centre the age limits along side drinking so I would be fine with that. I don't think that 21is good though because many university students require transportation to get from place to place, which is hard when buses are late or not to the right schedule for everyone. Athough I do see why the government is trying to increase the age for safety and maturity isses, the vast mojority of young, new drivers don't actually drive dangerously, so I think there should be a system where if you are caught endangering someones life through driving before the age of 21 without justifiable cause, your license should be revoked and you should not be allowed to take your test or learn to driving again until you turn 21.
i think changing the age to 18 won't really have that much of effect on accidents and whatnot.
the only thing i agree on is have a 0 alcohol policy on new drivers.
In the USA the driving age is 16. I think it should be 17, because that would generally mean all high school seniors could drive and I simply think you should be a bit older. 21 is wayyy too high!
I think 17 is good because we need some responsibilities at that age.
I'm glad we'll be able to drive at 17...
IMO we shouldn't all suffer due to some boy racers.
I'm looking forward to driving my own car, when I want and where I want listening to what I want as loud as I want.
Thinking over it, if it went any higher 17 year olds would be destroying public property, rather than their own cars anyway. This is of course following the stereotype the government has put down that all 17 year olds love crashing cars and causing accidents
Is there some part of america that isn't listed here?

Driving age should be 16/17 because college is a bugger to get to without a car for most people and if you decide not to go to college you have a job to get to and most jobs require transport...
once you're out of full time education no matter your birthdate you should be allowed to learn in my opinion.
There is a lot of contemplation to night kerphews (sp?) aswell now and the amount of theory you have to do before you can drive.
I know that the driving age in Florida is 16 and let's face it, the roads in Florida are massive, the cars are much more powerfull (the Taxi's are all V8's lol) and if they can all do it why can't we? Our roads are easier to drive on an we have poxy little 1 litre cars which most people start out in anyway! So 16 should be the age limit.
I think ths is a Hard one as if the driving age was 16 the insurance would be Way over the top due to boy racers and stuff
However, the insurance is huge at 17 which is why u see most 17 year olds driving crappy old cars but i think 17 - 18 is a good age for driving.
:D
I think the age should be 18, 16 years old is practically kids driving to school. That would cause problems as some 'immature' children could easily do something silly and dangerous in school hours.
17 most people are busy, some will still be in school after the new age rule and its adding more danger to the roads.
18 is practiacally adult. People know more about dangers and have maybe grown up a little.
don't give a **** as long as nothing changes before february.
I can start learning soon, and get my first car at 16 :)!
I drive to school everyday. I wrecked my mom's car at 16 and it really smartened me up a lot about driving. Driving isn't all about how fast you can go, and doing ticks. I go as fast as I feel nesessary and I drive my car like it should be driven.
I hope nothing changes!
Well before December anyway.
If I could change the rules it would be
a) drive at 16
b) all cars are automatic
save us the hassle >.>
I personally think 18's too young but on the other hand its jus tirte. I think its stupid with people like boy racers, but for people who drive respsonsible its ok.l
I dunno im undecided.
It is fine as it is, but it wouldn't bother me if it was upped to 18. Most people here are probably under 17 and are saying that they would like it to be lower purely because they want to get in a car as quickly as possible, and not thinking about what really matters.
Driving should stay at 17, 18 is ok.
21 is too far.
iv'e done no research, but personally i don't think people mature that much between the age of 17 and 18 and that it wont affect driving much, i think 16 is too low though. I say don't change it, and i drive at the moment ;)
21 more like 25 kids these days driving like lunatics. They should not be allowed to drive until they have grown some balls
Tbh I reckon it should be 16, that way there will be less people 16-17 drinking illegaly which should make them safer :)
make it 25....25 i say!!!
i totally disagree..
It should be 11 to drive
they should have smaller cars for kids and smaller roads.
Have smaller engines
Would be awesome :)
I don't understand this country's views on anything anymore. I was in Sainsbury's yesterday and walking through the alcohol bit n like you have to be 21 to buy it 18 to drink in a bar and 16 at home.. Why not just have one set age ***?
Plus its mostly old ******s in the government who should really just get on with their job n leave us teens alone :]
/rant over.
At 16 I've seen alot of school children buy mopeds. A lot of them can't drive them and barely adhere to road laws.
I actually now think it should be upped to 18, I understand a lot of people on this forum are mature and maybe under the age of 18. I just think alot of drivers are too reckless and drive too fast.
I believe you should be able to take lessons etc. at 17 then can only pass and drive a car at 18.
Perhaps thats the best way overall.
Well yes i agree there are lunatics but like I am proper young and my dads taught me how to drive, so i dont see why i have to wait another 5 years until I can drive with a driving license....
I think 16 is still pretty young to drive a car, though 18 is alright I guess. I dont know really. I find it hard to judge about this because I think it is different for everyone. Some people are ready to drive at 16 but for others it's better to wait till they're 18.
I think 21 would be a fair age. I definetly think that 17 is too young for some people due to maturity, I mean its fairly easy to pass a test but that in theory, in no way proves that someone is mature enough to drive. I mean, how many times do you see people speeding down the highway or pulling out, they are not only putting their life at risk but the lives of others.
I've recently drove a car on a road safety school trip and I'm 15. Its not as hard as it seems, obviously this was on private land and stuff but none of us crashed?
I think 17 is suitable.
