I was looking earlier on, we have about 100 VIPS

Hmm, it's probably just enough to make it worth while, but a bit too many to control it :P. (Btw that's VIPs not Donators right?)

If you have a completely separate chat then just say that it is not moderated and that you use it at your own risk.

There has been many threads about this over the years. It took up too much server space and has failed I think would be very annoying for most of the members. The other problem if I remember is that it could be a security problem as it it a hack - correct me if I am wrong.

It doesn't take a minute to post a message on here. If you want 'instant'
have a mass convo on msn messenger - thats the way I see it. I don't support the idea it would detract from the main purpose of the forum and as Jin said would be extremely hard to moderate and take up quite a bit of time to do. I really cannot think of any advantages except that it is 'instant' and lots of disadvantages. Both the chat and blog system didn't take off because Habbox has its own unique successful formula which is why its is the number one forum and adding the present 'fad' or gimmick just doesn't work. Thats my opinion anyway. :)

I think what Catzsy's saying makes the most sense.

Or not, Coding. This is the second thread you've started "bullying" me in (for want of a batter phrase). I think it might be against the rules for me to threaten with -rep but the next instance will result in all relevant posts being reported :).

Because that software is all paid for, regardless of whether we use it or not we still own it. Nobody really likes using it as it is so disconnected from the rest of the forum, it is essentially a chat room integrated with the forum in a mediocre way. Not to mention it doesn't handle usernames with any special characters in.

This was ---Mad---'s doing in order to overcome our original issues with server load, data transfer etc it has evidently failed in other ways.



The other issue we have is moderation. It isn't easy on a chat system.

We're back at square 1 because if only Platinum members are allowed to use it, then its still going to be barely used. However, if you added VIP and VIP+ into it, and could give away access to the chatroom in competitions, perhaps, then it MIGHT work.

If i was a sales rep (guessing that means they try to sell stuff) I wouldn't be posting in other forums, I just did it because I thought it would be a good idea but since its not going to suit the system then why post anymore, thread should of been closed a while ago..

Why not just remove the broken chat thats there at the moment, add a flash irc client then just create a room on slashnet or freenode or somthing.
Op a few staff and you have a chatroom thats easly moderatable, supports 100's or people at once and doesnt use any habbox bandwidth aside from loading a flash based client :)

(plus we can use are own clients to access just that when wanted) - seems win win to me :p

That's why I suggested Mibbit ages ago :rolleyes:, however Jin has decided that no one will bother loading a broken chat room so it may as well be left as is to save bandwidth on the flash loader...

To be fair, a chat feature has one advantage; users will be able to chat to each other quickly and easily. On the other hand it has countless disadvantages; security risks, extra work for admins and moderators, probable risk of people abuisng it (I imagine much more than actual constructive conversations), and relatively few using it rendering it pointless anyway.

So there is literally no point. I do agree that the existing thing be gotten rid of because quite frankly, it's just a piss take :P.

Just mod it as a separate entity, someone on irc doesn't behave, they get kicked from irc. Maybe add a profile option where people can list there registered nick on a server if people are worried about identy issues. Other than that a simple disclaimer that people may not being useing the same name they do on the forum is all thats really needed o.o

ps use Mibbit as the IRC client!

Also you could use an IRC bot for filtering, auto ban for repetitive rule breaking e.t.c.

Inferno was just the idea, but since it won't work, we have one that will.

Running a bot would be an idea, though does mean habbox have to host it somewhere which is a little extra overhead.

Would make catching badwords etc alot easier though :)

Depending on commands ect. is weather it would keep admins busy..

Moderators should be able to do:
~ Ban
~ Prune

And lots of people would like to work on the forum so you could hire shoutbox moderators
