Soph, dont beat yourself up about it darlin', when I moved back from Australia (To England), I had an aussie accent and I still have cos I refuse to sound extremely scouse and i like my accent!!
I got the whole "Say Tomato" "Speak Australian" "Say Parent" etc.
I didnt care, I still spoke even though I was laughed at, I made friends easily cos I didnt withdraw myself, Just remember who you are..Soph, the loud, fun bubbly English person, Just cos your in a different Country, doesnt mean you cant be Soph, the loud fun, bubbly English person!!
Just be yourself chick, you'll be okay xo.
I'm Scottish born, but I've lived in Australia for almost all of my life. So naturally I've picked up the accent. Every couple of years I go back to Scotland, to see relatives and whatnot... and I'm just going to put it in a simple way.
You have NO IDEA what it is like to be called upon cause of your accent.
Every conversation starts like this "You're Australian? OI MATE CHUCK A SHRIMP ON THE BARBY, CRIKEY A STING RAY"
But the real kicker is that people usually enjoy foreign accents. People enjoy the Australian accent and in my opinion a british accent on a girl is great :D (Presuming your british).
Give it a chance, and let the critical ones who judge people on accents drown in their own stupidity...
i think that everyone finds another accent interesting.
an american kid came to england and he went to our school for one day (idk why) and stayed in my tutor group, and he had an american accent.
people laughed at him when he spoke, but it was in a nice way because they were interested in the accent he had.
thats what they're probably doing to you.
Look if Americans have a problem with your accent tell them they should go get their own language.
My PE teacher is Canadian and everyone makes fun of her, but i quite like the american/Canadian accents. I wish i lived in America, i would love the attention tbh, as far as i know the Amercians find the english accent attractive and thats enough to drag me over to america =D
