Theory test does not include questions about insurance.. It's about certain situations on the road, road signs, markings etc..
Just get the damn DVD, then you'll pass first time. It's not hard.
I have a mate who has failed 6 times, because he hasn't bothered to buy the DVD's. Admittedly he's thick as shit but the DVD is a real help.

Most of it is common sense but i would struggle with stopping distances etc :o ive nt read the highway code since i passed my test but i do know my car stops in a much shorter distance than the highway code says it does.
