I would way rather have my own car than have fight with my mom over when I can drive hers. I don't understand why somebody would buy a new car, when a perfectly good used one is cheaper!

Indeed, even if it's only been used for like 5 days. The prices get chopped up yet the car still smells new, handles new and can drive really well. Only people worried about touching things other people have touched really buy new ones, unless they've seen a car they love, which I guess you can let them off, or a car which can't be found used, like my dad's old Chrysler Voyager which was black, with see-through glass (not faded/black) and had cream leather seats. No such car existed.
