I reinstalled iTunes and it worked although it thinks it's a camera for some reason, it'll charge and sync so I don't mind that.

There are two key drivers for iPods one is the Apple Mobile Device service and the iPod driver, by reinstalling itunes you also reinstall these drivers.
As for the camera in notification displaying when you connect your iPod touch, you can either just put up with it, or you can disable windows trying to suggest things for your iPod when you connect it.
Connect your iPod,
Start -> Control Panel -> Printers and Sound -> Scanners and Camera -> Right click on iPod touch and go to properties
There should be an option to "take no action" under something to do with the pop-ups. Select that and "okay" your way out.
That will stop your pc from thinking its a camera.
