If you're using a decent service, change to port 80/8080/443.

It certainly is.

Downloads don't start when I set port to 443. Using the EU SSL server.

Astraweb offer SSL on port 543 or something too though iirc?

The default for Astraweb is port 563, which is what I'm using now.
