[TV] Eurovision 2011

We have a good chance, Blue had a pretty big fan base in Europe (not just Italy) and they are actually good unlike our cheesy previous entries. Jedward however... NIL POINTS.

Can't wait. last year I was watching eurovision with some1 on skype and I wanted to vote and it was like 20 seconds left and I was too late :(

They had minor success elsewhere in Europe - Italy was the only place they had repeated good chart positions and the fact that Italy is where most of their European fans lie is represented by the fact they had fans singing along to 'I Can' loudly and they still remembered the words to their Italian version of 'Breathe Easy'. Many on the Eurovision fansites are saying the BBC and the British people are overestimating their popularity in Europe. Blue's discography (Wikipedia).

I'm not saying they're completely unknown, but I don't think their past career will count for all that much, because they're not as relevant as t.A.T.u, for example, were when they entered.

But Abba and Lena were totally unknown outside of their countries before the Eurovision. I'm not too sure about Celine Dion, but wasn't there a bit of contoversy since she was french canadian?

But if everybody starts entering well known entries then you might just get fans voting for the people rather than the song.

I think the international level of success Blue had is overestimated and overplayed by fans and the BBC. They had a large following in Italy and minor success elsewhere, but they've been promoting on various European TV shows and in clubs and massive outdoor show, however, sending an act with international success will help. For example, Dima Bilan who won in 2008 (and came second in 2006) is very well known in the former USSR. People will blame the mass votes for him on the Easten Bloc wanting oil and protection, but it's simply because they know them. Also, remember that Russia sent t.A.T.u in 2003, and they probably got their placing on name alone. In 2008, again, Germany got 12 points from Bulgaria, because one of the members of No Angels is a judge on Bulgarian Idol. In 2009, using Andrew Lloyd-Webber on stage was also probably a factor in getting Jade's placing.

I agree lol. I'm starting to think they were entered to prevent us winning. I wonder what the final choreography is going to be like because my god they are going to need something magical.

I saw a documentary on this last night actualy. And when we won it 4 times in 5 years, back in the 90s we were getting into huge problems as we couldn't afford to host it anymore . This was before the boom years.

I forgot that there used to be a rival to eurvision (intervision) in the eastern european block before the fall of the USSR.

According to Blue on Loose Women (yeh I have to put up with watching that!) they said that this company did a poll about Eurovision and who was going to win and stuff and according to that poll, Blue were estimated to become second.
