You seem to be under the impression that anyone who has ever engaged in the use of cannabis is a raving junkie and can't function as a human. Not everyone that has the odd joint every now and again is Ozzy Osbourne, believe it or not.
While we're at it, why don't we just ban alcohol, nicotine and even caffeine if that's the logic you think we ought to go by? Let's ban chocolate and McDonalds because some people can't stop eating them and get obese.
Just because a small percentage of people make bad choices and abuse certain substances, it doesn't mean everyone is that way. The fact that there is a minority of people that lack the capacity to look after themselves is a crappy excuse for marijuana to be illegal.
ps Dan is for decriminalisation and has said so, he's not trying to ban stuff he just doesn't like it
Used to be against it, but now for it. After reading journals on people being criminalised for taking it medically because prescription drugs were worthless completely changed my mind. It seems completely barbaric to punish people who are suffering pain and can't get rid of it with what does seem to be a harmless drug, especially when it was done in a controlled, private environment. Other than for it stinking to high heaven (pun maybe intended) there aren't really that many problems, other than those who have addictive personalities who will no doubt get addicted and obsess over it, causing a strain on services offering psychiatric services to combat addiction. But you can't really stop that without mindless intervention which is just time consuming :P
Not sure about how it should be used either. The good thing about banning smoking in public was that we do not have to put up with the smell of tobacco in pubs etc, so if they follow that I wouldn't mind, but this is just opinion.
I believe it should be legalized. Not just for its medicinal properties (which you get from extracting the oils and drinking it).
It is also natural, and has been proven to be safe, heck the American Gov't even hold a patent for one of the medicinal uses for it.
Also we have the many uses of Hemp, and it doesn't even need pesticide!
If you look back as to why it was illegalized, it was because back then, the Mexicans would come up and do work in America, and after they were done, they would go back and smoke some wacky tabbacy. Anyways Men in power thought "We cant have these mexicans going back home after work and smoking this, what if they did something to our women and children". Same happened with Crack (African Americans using it after they were done working on the ships back then" and also Opiates (Which the chinese immigrantes would smoke after working) All in fear they would do something to their woman and children.
Anyways, for 1000's of years we never criminalized these substances, until then. Something to question honestly.
cannabis being illegal has just made the world a more dangerous place
why buy something illegal when you can get some ultra potent powder off the internet and then have a few seizures
Ah I remember hearing Hemp was/is banned in the US (and maybe Canada too?). The only reason that seems to stand these days is that it looks like cannabis, rather than any actual excuse :P Hemp is/was grown a lot not so long ago in the UK, probably to help create hemp shopping bags as it was the year before bringing your own shopping bags to go shopping with came in as an environmental protection incentive.
Hemp is a fantastic multi-use product and that is a good argument, but "it's natural" is not :P
