You've done the same mistake that most Fansites make and although I've never had a fansite, I made the same mistake with my online radio station.
If your going to launch - launch. Forget versions - Rather than telling people what's coming soon try to get it there from the start. Too many stations big up their launch and then launch with the most basic site and it can and does put people off - people want the features straight away. You need an actual site, more information etc. For a radio station there's not even a schedule.

Oh I also don't like the fact free users can only view so many posts on the forum. I know you want to encourage people to sign up but to me that just makes me want to sign up less.

Errrr to be honest new fansites are about 7 years too late to the scene. A dwindling target market does not make for a successful website.
