August Preview: August marked the start of the competitive season for United, as they faced 4 tough league matches in August aswell as 2 exciting games against Championship opposition to look forward to. It was safe to say that August was going to be quite an eventful month.

Even though we were the best side throughout the game it wasn't enough as we were undone by Championship side Coventry City at Wembley. An early goal from midfield maestro Cody Wharton gave us hope but a couple of errors in the back 4 allowed Coventry to pounce twice before half time with goals from Beuzelin and Morrison, which sealed the victory for the Sky Blues in London. It got worse as Adam Rose was ruled out for 2-4 weeks with a bad groin strain.

Our league campaign got off to a flyer as we ran out 3-1 winners against Port Vale at Wembley. New signing Tim Sills gave us the lead with an impressive strike before Louis Dodds equalised for the visitors 5 minutes later. 15 minutes before the break Welshman Danuel Manetti gave United the lead once more with a fantastic header. United were getting nervy before Tim Sills secured the victory 15 minutes from time with a Cristiano Ronaldoesque header as he guided the ball into the top right hand corner of the net. The victory gets United off to the best possible start for their 2008/09 promotion push.

United's hopes of an upset against Championship side Bristol City were killed after they lost 2-1 at Wembley. Nicky Maynard gave the visitors the lead 5 minutes in before in-form winger Lucas Roberts struck back just 3 minutes later. The 3rd and final goal of the match came 5 minutes before half time as a David Noble thunderbolt was enough to send out the fighting Hatters.
That's just the first half of the month, but the 2nd half will be coming later as I knew you were getting impaitent so I thought I'd show you the 1st half now and the 2nd later.
