Lol that's what I was sort of thinking, I would regard something like a Range Rover or a nice Merc as a proper car. :P

My favourite car of this thread so far!!
Loving the flared arches and alloys! The little one litre engine is great on fuel and also pretty nippy with the car being so light, combined with the handling (especially with the bigger wheels you have put on) it must be a fantastic little car. I really want one as my first car but with it being inevitable that I will have a few bumps being a new driver and probs a bit of a boy racer it is hardly the safest car to be wizzing around in. Just wondering but do you know if roll bars offer better protection in head on or side on impacts?
jesus when did you get that wee whippersnapper!? looks just like my mates', he's gettin rid of his tho
anti roll bars are for handling, so if you want protection, then get a full cage. not a cheap ebay one, a custom built one, which will set you back a lot. Don't get a mini as your first car, because they're cool n' stuff, but if you're worried about crashing it, it's not really the car. Fair enough, it's not as safe as you might think, but it's not really fair to ruin a quality old car.
This thread has made me want a mini as my first car even more. If I did get one I would put in a 6 point roll cage so it is much safer. As you can see by this picture it would withstand a head on collision much better with the cage there. The bonnet may crinkle up like a pancake however at least I wouldn't have a steering wheel in my chest.

However I wouldn't have mine looking as "raw" and exposed inside.
not my actual car, but the exact same model:
