I think in instances like that it shouldn't be filtered but generally, it should be.
As been said, there's no positive use for it what so ever.

Actually no you'd get in trouble for calling someone an idiot, but you basically said you want to use it as an insult?
By the way down to earth means sensible :P
Calling a mentally disabled person a ****** is, although terminology wise is correct, is not a very nice thing to do. Its the equivalent of calling a quadripalegic a cripple, or an epileptic a ****.
Gomme > Not everything is done just because you request it, believe it or not management does take initiative...sometimes :P
The word in the OP can be very offensive actually and so it should be banned, but it also is french for pull back or something because as an Airbus comes in to land it goes:
"50, 40, 30, 20, 10, R*E*T*A*R*D, R*E*T*A*R*D." :)
Its not just french, its actually English. It means to stop or to slow down. It must be the Latin root as it also can mean "slow person" which is closer to the more offensive meaning as well as the technical (but politically incorrect) meaning.
However, the word that rhymes with firetruck also means intercourse, but that doesn't mean we're about to unfilter it because of its alternate meaning :P
