[SUGGESTION] Different reputation system?

If I'm honest I probably do tend to rep those with higher rep power more often than those without, but that's because they make better posts, hence having the rep in the first place

I think the part of me that hates change is the only thing stopping me completely liking this idea :P. In theory it's a great idea but I'm not sure if it would be as practical on this forum. The other question that is basically being asked here is, do we need the -rep option?

I disagree with the point about it being unfair on users with lower rep powers as their reps have less of an effect on someone's reputation than those with higher reps, because the whole point is that those with higher rep powers have earned it. If this wasn't the case, it would be unfair on those who have earned it but don't have the extra power. Also, I'm pretty sure people would get confused if both systems were in place.

Overall I think people would generally be unhappy if this were to suddenly replace our rep system and I can't see nvr or Jin or anyone being too enthusiastic about scrapping it either :P.

There's nothing wrong with the current system. If you say something which really wasn't too smart then you may get - reped. You can feel free to appeal it and it is often sucesfull.

Plus creating a new system would anger many who already have a lot of rep.

we could keep the system as it is but have a little thing at the side by the name with rep score.

Well first of all, there seems a positive response to either scrapping the -rep system or moving to a "Thanks" system. There doesn't really seem much opposition to it so some more research should be conducted (Maybe a Poll by the forum management) and some opinions from the management but overall I think the reception is pretty good.

I think it's wrong to say the old system doesn't have any problems, first of all a lot of people have said they would prefer change, but also the rep system gets many complaints, there is the issue with dealing with -reps and that the rep system needs to be adjusted every so often due to people getting ever so high amounts of rep.

It won't ever be adjusted again, unless a whole new system was introduced. It never needs fiddling with, it's perfect as it is. I don't mind if people would rather use a Thanks system, I don't see how it's any better but hey, that's my opinion.

Also, I'm really against the removing of -rep. Not just because I have a big rep power but because what's the point of having a +rep when you can't give -rep. It's just people are scared of being -repped. Imagine your school implemented a new system "Teachers can only praise you, no longer criticise". When there is one there needs to be another else the +rep becomes less meaningful.

Have you read this thread? Most people have stated their support for the current (or older) system. As for people complaining about -rep, that's just because no-one likes being told they're wrong and has always been a problem

I've left out e5 as I'm not sure who he was agreeing with, but even if he's for the thanks idea that's 11 (including me) vs 5 (including you as thread starter and giving you e5 as a special gift), not quite 50/50
