can i just suggest that you dont let infectious moderate it or we'll only be allowed to talk about the teletubbies on there
The way I see it as is the forum is a community and it shouldn't all be about post count (all be it important) but also the community that the forum has. Richie posted something in a thread about members being all 'i cba posting a thread you post a thread instead' mood, I think if we introduce a shoutbox for a few days a week it will get people talking a bit more in that and people who no doubt wouldn't normally talk to each other, talking to each other in it. If it helps bring the community together a bit more then I don't see it as a 'silly' idea really. Like I've said though it will be introduced as a trial, if it works then great, if it doesn't then we can say that we tried it and it didn't work, it won't harm anyone really :P
Obviously moderation of it is something that will need to be looked into and probably some shoutbox rules introduced (and probably banning [@]@Stephen![/@]; from it) but that's something that Brandon and myself will discuss before we introduce it :P
Imagine the spam forum and then times it by 10. The shoutbox wont be used for anything other than talking crap and in the long run wont do the forum any good. I agree, it shouldn't all be about post count but there are more efficient ways to involve the community without resorting to something like this.
Mkay, I like the idea of a shoutbox but maybe as a perk to donators, VIP's and staff?
There's quite a lot of decent discussion in the spam forum. Just because there isn't any meaning to a thread doesn't make it worthless. I agree with Scott, there's more to a community than post count, it's how people interact with each other. I think the best staff bonding isn't when there's a game of OMGpop (although these are good too) but when there's a bit of banter and conversation in the spam threads. Don't see how a similar principle to that can't be extended to the wholeforum
I'm not totally for it but there's no harm in trying it out on a trial basis and then we can judge if its a good idea or not. :)
