There is a big difference between being dedicated, good at what you do, and consistently in a department. The lonest I've been staff is about 9 months I think (maybe longer?), because I get busy with uni/deadlines and leave, because I always think if I can't put in my usual 120% it's not good enough (I nearly resigned last month but people made me realise me posting away pretty much averages the same workload as a normal staff member).
But I obviously didn't get either of my promotions because I'm not good at what I do, and I'd say some of the staff that have been here for a long time simply don't deserve it - quantity doesn't mean quality. Or that they'd be a good manager at all!

Obviously dedication counts for a lot though and it is impressive to stay as staff for any length of time.
I demand that you do me and matt garner since the start as we have both had sooo many roles. :D
