Exactly. I think we're the same age and my parents didn't have to discipline me very often but if I was being totally out of line then yes I got a little slap on the back of my leg. I don't have any violent tendencies whatsoever and as far as i'm aware bear no mental scars as a result of this. So yeah, if my child was in hysterics or was being a spoilt brat then I may be inclined to give it a tap to snap out of it.

I probably will if they did something which deserved it

no coz theres other forms of punishment, like for example, the naughty area
or grounding when they get older

no not even to discipline them i would just take things they really like off them for a set amount of time- it has more effect :)

A slap on the arse/back of the head and a grounding. 'The naughty step' that I hear people trying to threaten their kids with on the bus/wherever NEVER works.
