IMO its debatable. I remember the attitude era started a few weeks after Austin won KOTR. The ending for me was the draft. But you could say when the invasion angle started because thats when WWF had bought out the competition.

The foundations of the generation started when Austin won KOTR '96, but the era didn't properly get into full gear until 1997.

I don't want Cena to go because I really dislike Smackdown but at least on Smackdown he could get another title reign and be perhaps more appreciated.
