The trouble is that a lot of people really don't understand politics, it isn't taught in schools and most will just pick it up here and there. People think they are voting for one person, the leader of the party such as Brown and Cameron, not what their parties policies are, but they are also too lazy to find out. Also a lot of opinions are passed down from generation, for example my parents grew up in the Thatcher era and were both from working class backgrounds so are both anti Tory and because of her always vote Labour, they still don't know I'm voting Conservative.
To be honest before any voting takes place people should be taught basic politics and read fully each parties policies before they are allowed to enter a polling booth, votes are being wasted and the wrong parties being elected for the wrong reasons.
