The reason I am hesitant is because I would presume running it within WebOS or even gnome or kde as an x window system within the OS would have a negative impact on the battery life of the device. I guess I'll determine my preference when mine arrives.

No way am I paying that much, it's still an alright deal but nowhere close to the firesale prices.
