It will never be fixed. Only way it would be fixed if we blanked all reputation altogether or stopped using it and went for another system.

I know, but allowing pointless rep (which is against the rules already) will just help destroy (or break) it more surely? :P

No it's suggesting if we make an exception for one thread, it should only be that posted officially by forum staff.

not allowing anyone to make a xmas thread, closing it an hour or so later and leaving the 30 people or whatever that posted with a bonus of 500 rep points, then creating another in a few weeks with the exception.
