i dont believe the world will end..

Am I the only one who thinks it could be quite exciting? I would love to be the scientists behind this right now. It sounds so interesting. Plus, they have been researching this for 20 years. For it to actually work - it would be... phenomenal (sp?)
it would be nice to understand how everything works
You would know it would be there due to the black dot staring you in the face.
People don't realise that there have been many lesser hadron colliders working before people even knew the existence of the LHC - an even bigger collider is going to be activated in 20 or so years. They're safe.
can you explain the event horizons lool x
so you couldnt escape out of it if the planet is half in-half out.
The seven who voted Yes are idiotic.
What time is it, can't wait.
I don't think the world is going to end, but there is no proof that it isn't. No one has ever fired particles at each other this fast before so no one will know what will happen. A few hundred years ago scientists thought that if something was lighter than air it couldn't fly, but now there are planes that weigh 17 tons. So you can't really say "No. Its not going to happen".
Sounds scary, thanks for the info. x
I saw one on a tv program once like 3 years ago
You can, because science has proven that nothing disastrous is going to come from the LHC. In this world of health and safety gone mad, if there was a genuine chance at destruction, the project would have been abandoned. Numerous colliders have been active over the years, and in a couple of decades time, an even larger hadron collider will be in use. Those saying "the world is going to end" are the sensationalistic media, because more often then not, the truth does not sell a good story.
of course it wont. i hope. there is a 1:5000000000 chance, that means that if there are 5000000000 planets and an LHC was on all 5000000000, only one will blow up. So, to prove that worlds will blow up with this we'll need 5000000000 planets and about €100 billion (in € because it is in Switzerland, so it is approx. £80127003828.47). So, no.
dude, its 1 in 10,000 chance.
It was on the news last night i'm sure it's 1 in so many million chance of even a mini black hole being created (never mind the earth being destroyed) we did about this a while ago in physics. They are just firing protons at near the speed of light in a 27KM tube then is cooled down to -271 degrees (1.9 degrees from absolute 0) then when they hit each other they take loads of pictures and then analyse it. The scientists say that mini black holes could be create but they will be the size of a proton and last a billionth of a nano second as they will just eat themselves oh and they are doing it to find out more about how our universe was made and to find the forumla of everything (why there is more Matter then Anti-matter) It's all very confusing and most of it is pointless but it is thought they can use it in the future to create energy (simulating two hydrogens atoms fusing together to create a helium one which releases enerygy, it's what happens on the sun)
Little science lesson for you there. And if you really wanna learn about the destruction of the earth just search "21 December 2012" lol it's the creatism religion that belive the world will end that day because earth passes Planet X or summet and on that day an alien aircraft will fly over space and all the people who die will go flying up into in or summet loony like that :P
personally I think this could be a scientific breakthrough, I'm not 'scientifically minded' nor do I have a huge interest in science, but if this works it'll be great. It will also make all the religions fall apart ;)
It's a 1 in 1,000,000.
Anyway. If we do get sucked into a black hole, why does everyone asume we'll die? No-one knows what's on the other side of one.
You will physically disperse out into microscopic what-do-ya-call-its.
Imagine if one person survives. Just one.
How long you think they'll go before killing themselves?
Since the effect of gravity increases as you are closer to the centre and decreases as you are further away, he massive gravity of a black hole means that even as short of a distance from your feet to your head means a big enough difference in the effect of gravity to pull whichever part of you is closest faster than the parts of you further away hence stretching you. It is proven as the effect of gravity on earth at the top of Everest is minutely less than at sea level.
I AM LEGEND!
