Nobody knows if Desmond died, and The staff origanaly said nobody was gonna die. They also said that Michael Emerson (A.K.A.) Henry Gale is joining the regular cast and that Harold (Michael) would bea regular cast member anymore, with Walt. O.oQuote:

Considering that nobody is sure and that wasn't an explosion and it was just the magnetic Field that deflected the quarentine Hatch, and that the staff said nobody would die, he isn't dead.
Considering he put the key in and turned the key to the little key hole which blows up the hatch and the hatch door got blasted away , I take it he died ;]
Then Charlie would die also. ;]
