Since Bernie is worth 2.62 billion alone that's not so stupid. Even in 94 they paid mansell 900,000 a race.. The damage on that car I shouldn't imagine wouldn't cost that much especially in f1 terms.
TV ratings would go up substantially!

No point in watching it now in my books... seasons over LOL untill next year when the ***** wins again.
The race did make me wonder... what if Vettel wasn't in F1? Surely we'd all think the McLaren was dominant, given Webber has been performing poorly this year.
Still we know that isn't the case. Brilliant year for both Vettel and the Red Bull team.
De La Rosa signs with HRT for two years.
Another seat filled with a no-talent.
Well done Jenson on getting second in the championship.
Yet more bad luck for Lewis, but oh well...
And well done to Force India for what was a brilliant race for them!
Yeah it was brilliant by Force India. I like Sauber and Force India in the midfield.
Seems like all the gearbox problems were happening this weekend.
Anyway, good one for Jenson - hopefully it'll give him the confidence and what not to carry his performance this season forward into next year and mount a realistic title challenge.
Good year, my highlight was camping at Silverstone and watching all the events something I'll be doing again next year too.
Good race again!
Glad Jenson got 3rd today... and 2nd in the final championship table!
Lewis was unlucky again, but hopefully next season he will be back next year highly motivated and ready to battle it out with Jenson!
Glad Webber finally won a race this year, thanks to Vettel having a problem and moving over.
Well, roll on March next year for the 1st of 20 races in the new season.
10 live on Beeb & 10 on Sky... - thought it would have been more on Sky, but thats not so bad (as long as you've got sky)
ROLL ON NEXT YEAR!
Martin Brundle is moving over to Sky, looks like BBC 5 Live commentator David Croft will be partnering him in the commentary box.
Lee McKenzie, Jake Humphrey and David Coulthard are staying put at the BBC. Not sure on EJ. Looks like Ted is also moving over to Sky Sports F1. Bit of a shame seeing the whole F1 team split over two channels though, seeing they've been so great together.
Anyway, bring on Sky. Its looking as if the Austin Grand Prix will be cancelled, meaning Sky will show all 19 live (9 exclusively) with the BBC showing 10 and also airing extended highlights (differing, depending where the race is held)
Can't wait till next year especially since I'm going to Silverstone again (as I've already mentioned) :P
Kimi Raikkonen is returning to F1 with Lotus Renault GP.

Looks like Lotus (as they will be known next year) are trying to keep on the backs of the Top 4 with Mercedes now looking to be serious contenders. Not sure how successful his return will be, but hopefully it'll make next year more interesting.
