apparently it doesn't hurt too much, at the end of the day it depends on your pain tolerance though.

i did mine myself (with proper hollow needles in a sterile environment, since someone always says something about me being stupid for doing it) and it didn't hurt atall.
however i took it out soon after because of school :\
but i'm glad i did since lip piercings are really common and look pathetic imo.
