Car Insurance at 17...
Hey,
So Im close to doing my driving test but Im dreading my insurance quote. Im getting my PassPLus done for free wby my instructor so Ill have a little discount. But when I look for the quotes on cheap cars, Im still getting £4000+ quotes.
How old are you, what car do you have, what type of cover, how much you pay & where did you get the quote from?
Im only an apprentice on £100/week and cant afford £4000, any ideas how to get it cheap along with my own no claims ability?

The only realistic way to get the insurance anywhere near a decent price is to setup a multi-car policy with at least 2 other cars and then put yourself of the 2ed driver on your own car, you'll see a massive drop by doing these 2, but being the 2ed driver can null most polices if they find out your the primary driver. You can also think about black boxes and restricted driving times which lower the quote alot.
You'll find that if you get a parent to ring them up and ask to setup a multi-car with you on they'll offer your insurance relatively cheap if your parents threaten to cancel there own insurance and move to another company.
PassPlus will lower it slightly but not to an affordable amount without doing any of the above.

I'm 18 and I have a 2010 (59 plate) Renault Clio 1.2 turbo (100bhp), I have fully comp cover on Admiral Multicar with my mum's Vauxhall Zafira and my dad's Seat Ibiza Cupra on it too. I have a full clean license since August 2010, and I have a year's no claims. My renewal is due in August but by then I'll have 2 years no claims. At present, I pay just over £1400 per year.

Look elsewhere. I know a 17 y/o friend who recently got quoted £1,200 on a half decent (like 2002) car.

20, Bora PD130, fully comp, £1200 and Admiral but I'm changing to Brentacre when it's due for renewal.

Don't say the car will be parked on a public street or anything, say private rented garage or home garage. That'll knock the price a little. But it's all depended on what area too, if you live in a really posh area with low crime, insurance is low. If you live in the ghetto then insurance will be higher than average just to cover the car.. Tested it in London, they want £4000 in Hackney and like 80% cheaper in my new area. Lol.

Im 21 and pay £1578 a year on a 03, 2 litre clio sport with all modifications declared. Would be something like £1349 if i payed yearly but its easier for me if i pay monthly. & Before anything was changed i was quoted £900. I had a 97 1.4 fiesta 16v before this and was paying like £1150 a year

I had the same problem trying to insure me 2001 pug 106 quicksilver was being quoted £4,000 on my own. Ended up doing it slightly illegally but thousands of people do it and the police cant do nothing. Put someone over 55 (nan, grandad) as the policy holder, have the car in their name and have the money for the insurance paid from their account. Then have yourself as a named driver and pay your grandad/nan cash.
I did this and have been driving for 5 months and paying £180 per month.
Its the only way people my age can afford it tbh. Up to you if you want to take the risk, my driving instructor suggested it to me, he said hed done it for years just after he passed.
