Insurance etc

I need some help, preferably anyway - the problem is I've just passed my driving test (Halloween) and I'm looking for some cheap insurance. I know it's a myth but there must be some kind of hints and tips to cheapen it up from £3k for more-or-less every car.

I'm 19 so I didn't think it'd be so bad but blimey it's impossible. Ideally I don't want to have a telematics device with a curfew or mileage limit but I know I'm probably being a bit of a dreamer.


I just want a car that will be cheap on insurance and a cheap quote, any hints and tips that you nice bunch might have?

When I first passed my test 5 years ago I went with Quinn Direct. I don't know about their prices now but I got cheap insurance with them. No tracker or curfew.

By cheap I mean cheap for when I passed my test (I'm assuming you live in the UK, apologies if not)

I also went with Quinn for my first year, no curfew/tracker but insurance was just under 3k.

I ended up paying £3600 my first year to not have a blackbox. Try different companies that are not on compare sites and add as many experienced people as named drivers as possible.

I went on co-ops young peoples insurance (black box) and got insured for £1,650 I think it was, recently they've given me about £325 of that back so really my first year of insurance has been about £1300~ which imo is worth the black box because it's saved me about 1-2k

I really don't understand peoples hate for the black box, I dont even look at the scores and whenever I need to drive after a certain time it just lowers my score a little in that area which changes nothing

if you want to best price on co ops young people insurance, what you do is keep you as the policy holder, add your parents, put their milage high and yours on the lowest possible (0-1000) then say its in a garage, my house doesnt even have a garage and they've never questioned it

the guy who fits the black box is an external company so he doesnt give a **** where your car is

i would seriously consider it, having a black box hasnt changed the way i drive or when i go out, I've even done handbrake skids and doughnuts in the snow and it doesnt give a ****

Probably because it monitors speed and if you break the speed limit like 3 times or something they'll end their insurance agreement with you due to it.

And doing something like that isn't advised, as if someone smashed into your car that's parked on the road at night they'll find a way to get out of paying for repairs if you're saying it's parked in a garage and it's not.

They're slimey *******s and they'll do everything in their power to avoid paying you for any claims.

Well I woudln't say I drive within the limits and they've never called me or contacted me about bad driving, their monitoring system isnt as good as people make it out to be

And if a car smashes into your car at night while its parked, they will just drive off
(my back right door is caved in due to a drunken *******, I know his reg but the police never did anything about it 'cause I cant prove it)

Yeah and if they drive off it's down to claiming against your insurance.. which they'll say you lied about parking in a garage if the accident took place on the road at 4am or something..

and depends on company i'd imagine some will have stricter policies than other regarding speed.
