Nature Or Nurture?

We've been having this discussion in sociology. What do you think makes you 'gay'. Two choices:

Nature
You were born gay, you were gay from the moment you were born you just never realised it, but now you do you reliase you have always been a bit different from the rest of the people and liked the same ***. You have always had the feeling deep inside, and never had one definate point in your life when you knew you were gay.

Nurture
Physical and environmental factors in your life moulded you into a gay person. The way you were bought up made you like the same ***, despite whether or not you were meant to. There was one point in your life when you knew you were gay, but it didn't come naturally, you decided and the way you were bought up made it that way.

It really is strange, this is a totally different whim but is it like - a murderer was born a murderer or did certain things make him that way. You see some people are clinically mental and have to kill people which is nature, where as others were abused at young and treated the same so see it a nurture.

For me i really think it is nature, i was born the way i was and the only reason i see my family a part of making me who i am today is because they adapted to it.

as far back as I can remeber, I've always liked looking at guys, but because most people are hetrosexual and in primary school talking about how "hot" a model is, and then they ask you if you think this person is hot, if you say no, then you'll get picked on. Since "Gay" is used as a word to offend other people, I guess when I was younger thought it was wrong so tried to convince mydrlf I was hetrosexual.
But yeah. I'm not. So Nature:)

Sexualty is determined at birth for the most part, its not a conisly controled mode of thought insted a inbuilt instinct, the human *** drive althogh overridable, has its routes in the genetic make up of an indervidal.
Brain scans have revialed homosexuals mens brains do function in a way more simlar to that of a woman than an ordinary mail for exsample and vice vera, along with a large amount of other eliments, inludeing the hormoen levles in the blood.

So Im pretty much saying Sexualty is deterimined threw as you call it "nature" rather than threw the upbringing "/

I would say both for me, as when I first went to a school in england in year 4 (used to live in spain) all the girls were really nice to me, don't ask me why :P

Then I started acting more "camp" and it lead from there.

Thanks for the comments. Mentor is right, scientists have proven there is some sort of difference from gay males to straight males, i think it's to do with chromosones? About gay men having more x's that y's - i'm no scientist though.

I'll have to disagree with mentor, I believe certain things in your life can turn you gay/bisexual. I think that cause... you could think your bi and then you have an encounter with the same *** and it determines that you ARE gay then that's nuture? I believe either just nuture or both.

What? First off what you described is Nature? Finding out ones sexualty has nothing to do with what sexualty they are? People can often become confused around pubety, yet will settle down in to a predetermened sexualty, which is set in there genetic code.

What your saying is for exsample, someone goes to a mirror for the first time and see's there hair is brown. Therefor there hair must have turned brown becuse they looked in the mirror?

Does that make sence to you? as to me it simply implys they were born with the hair colour and found out about it at a late date...

And... from what i read from dollars i was describing nuture cause nature as he says "since you were born" i said your surroundings and happenings can make you gay.

Ok.. i can see im gona need a simpler exsample for someone of your mental caliber.

Lets say you had never seen a tree before.
Then you went outside and saw one, and you saw it head leafs.
now with your logic, you would conclude it had leafs becuse you went outside and desciveded them.
While in realty it always had leafs you just dident desicover it.

Im not sure if i can make an anology any simpler, usealy i give people credit for at least haveing a tiny bit of intelagence. But after your comment about hair colour to sexualty, imply compleat ignoreance of what an anolgy even is, maybe that is pushing it "/

And to answer your question, yes obviosly, useing loose linkage everything is linked. Each of the things you describe is formed on the same planet, a carbon based organism/struture, or a product of such.
Sexualy and hair pigment are both depenedat on the Dna, such as is the entirely of both trees and humans "/

I just thought picking on someone who normally wouldn't have a lot of time to sit and explain why he has these thoughts would be quite normal especially when he's a manager of the site, i'd worry if he had the time to explain his ideas and spend like 5 minutes on each post?
