i think you can either get them in tom nooks on rare occassions

K.K Slider appears every Saturday, in the museums cafe inbetween 9-11pm. You talk to him and say you have no requests.
He sings a song for you and after gives you a soundcheck. Put in your stereo and shazam.

Here's a few tips I found out when I started:
Quick Money Tip:
Send letters with fruit attached to villagers everyday. You will recieve many items. The best items you can recieve are foreign fruit! Plant them and sell the fruit for 500bells each! Make a huge orchard and you'll be rich in no time.
100% Tree Growth Chance:
Simply chop down a tree, dig up the stump and bury the fruit in the hole left. For coconuts to grow, do this process on the beach.
