Rep is reputation. This is what you give to people for good posts (postive/green rep) and bad posts (negative/red rep). You get more rep via being repped, amount of posts, how long you've been here (ithink?).
And, the "newbie" status will go when you get your post count up, each certain amout of posts changes your status.
Check the FAQ someone posted though for extra crap. :P
