Yes, definately, after a while 1 def pures start getting owned.

Depends what your going to do get 85+ range and 85 mage then get 40 defence and pk.
I pk alot as it is, but i normally pk lvl 15 - 25 so it shouldn't make that much of a differance. And my range goes up as i pk, and i train mage at pc/alching.
Get def up...
Btw if i get 40, it will stay at 40.. So is it really worth it for 4 cbt lvls?
4 combat level isn't a massive difference...
People like elvemage have 70 defence...
You could go along the same lines as him, and not train attack / str much?

Pking gear = rune full helm, full black dhide, any gd?
Ye if your only gona use that acount for pking then mite as well get 40 def but if your gona use it for staking as well then dont get it

If you get 40 attack and pking at edge use rune full helm, black d hide top and vambs, rune legs, glory, addy boots, msb etc :].
If deep should probs take full d hide.
