Yes it's true! The company that owns it is selling it for $22m to I don't know who yet. It's in the times, couldn't find it online for you yet.
Yeh.. what you think of that? It could end up being painted pink :S

It would be stupid to sell it tbh. It's part of the Hollywood culture, you can't just get rid of it.
I did a project on the sign.
The original sign said HOLLYWOODLAND, it was used to advertise a property devlopment called Hollywood Land.
The sign burned at one point and it was rebuilt, or atlease a few letters burnt?
if I bought it I'd put it in my back garden :D heh heh
The sign is not for sale.. just the area to the west of it...
But still, homes could block the view.Quote:
It is perhaps the most instantly recognisable piece of land on Earth - yet the mountainside that provides the backdrop to the Hollywood sign could be yours for only $22 million.
no its the whole mountainside isnt it? therefor, you own the sign in a way. it wouldnt bet that expensive
whoever buys it, i hope they leave it and dont do anything to it, cuz its a hollywood landmark. i wouldnt be surprised if a rich celeb attempted to buy it though.
I'm guessing someone from China will buy it.
I didn't know this..
Interesting!Quote:
The Hollywood sign was never intended to be a permanent landmark. It was constructed as a temporary billboard in 1923 to promote a housing development called Hollywoodland, which is what the sign originally read - each letter lit up by 4,000 light bulbs.
I'll buy it to go with my hxf name thanks.
Mmmm the things I could do with/to/near that sign ;)
lol, change it to bollywood :P
Wouldn't like to think what would happen to it if a company like O2 or virgin media took over it. If o2 bought it then they'd paint bubbles all over it, if virgin media took over they'd feature it in every one of their adverts and if T-mobile bought it they'd paint it pink. I think it'l get bought by one of those holiday companies :P
You aren't buying the sign, you are buying the land in front of it.
I would buy it then change it to piss town
I would colour it in.
at one point it read "Hollyweed".
not sure why you'd want to buy the LAND.. sure it's recognized and all.. but 22 mil!? :s
Sounds very familiar...Quote:
Hustle: Series Four, Episode 19
"As One Flew Out of the Cuckoo's Nest, One Flew In"
With Mickey heading to Australia to help pull off a major con, Danny feels it's time for him to take the lead. To make his mark, he comes up with an ambitious plan to sell the Hollywood sign to Texan movie memorabilia fanatic Anthony Westley (Robert Wagner). Once in LA, Danny convinces Westley that the sign is being put up for sale to be replaced with a brand new one. Westley's willing to pay big money to get his hands on the sign and will stop at nothing to ensure he wins the bid. But how will the gang get the cash if they can't deliver the sign itself?
If I had the money I'd buy it and change the sign to say something else to annoy everyone :8
yeah but you can't do a lot with the land can you
you'd buy it just to go 'i own it'
You could put other adverts on it. Plus anyway a sign thats been around for ages that is featured in hundreds of movies and adverts is bound to make a lot of money £11 was an average weekly lottery win before they started all those smaller games.
22million for land in one of the most prestigious and glamorous areas in the United States, if not the world, looking over one of the most, if not THE most important place in showbiz.
The area is zoned for 5 luxury homes, who ever buys it and develops it will be a very rich person once they're done, because you can't get much closer to Hollywood than that!
