:O UK is soo compact!

Not to insult anyone but I was watching a show and they were showing houses in the UK and I couldent believe my eyes! They were in the kitchen and the woman said this is a great size kitchen with a large fridge/freezer and a large cooker. First off the fridge couldent hold barely anything, next off the stove was as wide as the woman showing the house and she looked like she hadent eaten in months! And she opened up a door and there was a washing machine? Do washing machines belong in the kitchen? :O NO DISHWASHER EITHER :( In my kitchen I have 2 ovens. 2 cooktops 1 dishwasher seperate fridge and freezer! I notieced that allot of the homes there are connected to each other and some families have 4 kids living in them? :S I would literially go insane living in a house with my mom and my 2 brothers. and im sure if sombody from the UK came to the US they would feel quite lost! Is it really like the way it looks on tv?

Dude, not everyones house is like that, i have a large kitchen and a large living room and everything, just some people don't have the money for large houses, so it isnt their fault.

Holy. Some houses are like that and some are not..

I find this thread quite offence don't forget, the size of america = flippin huge compared to england = less space for bigger, spaced out houses. >.>

Also there as the usa isnt doesnt have a welfair state, even the smallist houses in the uk, are bigger than quite a few in the us.

If you want realy small houses, japans where to look, as due to the geograpghy of the space theres next to no space, so youd be loving a 2 tiny rooms, for the same price as quite a big on else where "/

not the worst place but its true ppl will pay outragous prices for house i have been to every single housing development in the norteast of england some are small some are big depends on location and builder

prices in London = 2 million for luxury flat on thames
Yorkshire = 2million for mashion

Anways the programme u saw was probably set in Lodon where there isnt as much space, there are some huge houses in north. plus we use bricks not wood to build our houses, u mite not have releasied but wooden houses r kind of a fire hazard

The Essex Countryside has mostly wide open places, rather relaxing really. I will try and get a picture of a countryside, preferably nowhere near where I live :D

i live in west yorkshire and i live in a big house and there are lots of nce big houses up here, because halifax used to be the main industrial town, old factorys are being turned into luxury houses

So you're trying to say that every house in the US is huge? So even the people who are poor and have barely enough money to feed themselves live in huge mansions? No? Well its the same here, not everyone can afford to live in large houses.

Ive never actaly heared that sterio type before.

I would exspect differnt houses in differnt aria's, aka skyscraper based flats in places like newyork etc, while more normal houseing in the "middle america" where ever that actaly is "/ (other than the middle)

1: uk houses are not a fire risk
2: lovely country side
3: we dont get tornadoes and stuff so our brick houses wont fall down like americans
4: we take pride in our houses so dont say they are awful

Well considering, your now pointlesly trying to insult me in an offtopic manner, wich shows you have no way to respond, ill just take it you now grugingly accept i was right.

America, being so big has far more variation in houseuing types from end to end. england being smaller, also has variuation, athogh not to such a degree, and tv programs want to make a strory so focus on footage that best backs up the points there trying to make, in a simalr way to tabloid newspapers do with the information, resulting in an obscuration of the facts, to give a certain view.

some uk houses are oviosly very small, but many are not.

Most American houses are wooden in areas where wood is easily accessible. In Pennsylvania, where my American Family is from, they have half wooden housing and half not, the outside is wooden for show and the inside is like a plaster. (This is from pictures and a conversation I had with my cousins.) Because Pennsylvania was basically a wooded area and plaster was added when it was made and it isn't exactly hard to take around.
