CCTV shows fans attacking police

Police in Manchester have released CCTV images showing up to 200 football fans chasing officers and attacking one of them after the Uefa Cup final.
The footage also shows Glasgow Rangers fans tripping up a Greater Manchester Police officer and jumping on him after the match with Zenit St Petersburg.
Assistant Chief Constable Justine Curran described the fans as being "like a pack of baying wolves".
Eleven male Rangers supporters have been charged with criminal offences.
Seven of them were charged with public order offences, one with assault, one with being drunk in a sports ground and one with throwing a missile.
A further 11 Rangers fans who were arrested have been bailed pending further inquiries.
Twelve Rangers fans arrested were cautioned, and seven men, including one Zenit St Petersburg fan, were released without charge.
Scottish Labour, Tories and Lib Dems have called for an inquiry.

Scottish Conservative deputy leader Murdo Fraser initially said the decision to deploy riot police was an "over-reaction" which may have inflamed the situation.
But he was later forced to temper his comments after viewing the CCTV footage.
Uefa has praised the police and city council for their handling of the occasion.
Ambulance crews dealt with 52 cases of assault after the match, in which Glasgow Rangers were beaten 2-0 by Zenit St Petersburg.
Assistant Chief Constable Curran said violent clashes were sparked when police officers came under a "severe level of attack".
Riot police were deployed after a city centre big screen failed and several arrests were made, including six men who were held after a Russian fan was stabbed inside the City of Manchester stadium.
The police officer whose attack was captured on CCTV footage suffered bad bruising to his arms and body and hurt his elbow.
Screen inquiry
Greater Manchester Police said a total of 15 officers suffered minor injuries and a police dog cut its paw after treading on broken glass.
Despite the scenes, council leader Sir Richard Leese said the city would not be put off hosting future international sporting events.
Sir Richard said it was one of the biggest movements of people ever seen for such an event, and paid tribute to the authorities for the handling of the crowds.
He also said there would be an inquiry into the failure of the screen in Piccadilly Gardens.
The company behind the five screens erected in the city centre, Lightmedia Display, said the failure was due to a technical signalling problem.

The city council said next week's Champions League Final between Manchester United and Chelsea, in Moscow, would not now be shown on big screens in Manchester.
Uefa said Manchester did a "fantastic job" in staging the final despite the trouble and insisted no other city could have done it better.
Communications director William Gaillard said: "Both the municipal government and Manchester police have done a fantastic job given they were faced with well over 100,000 fans coming from Scotland.
"I can't believe that any other city would have done anything better."
The general secretary of the Rangers' Supporters Association, John MacMillan, said he was disappointed with the behaviour of some fans.
He added: "There is no excuse for it to be honest. From what I saw before the game there was no need for attacking paramedics and the police, it is indefensible."

Yeah i see what you mean, I love how the Scottish government says afterwards that riot police weren't needed?

If a helpless policemen is getting beaten up because he's doing his job then should we just leave him there? Is that the good ol' Scottish way? :S

Don't be so naive. England is terrible for it. Think about it. United/City. Grimsby/Lincoln. All the derby teams are terrible for riots.

Also, on topic with the riots. The police were attacking the fans brutaly, the fans are bound to retaliate with a bit of force? But iLol'ed when they were running for their lives.

Retaliate with force? They beat him to the ground?!

There's been no evidence or complaints the police were being 'Brutal' as of yet? This isn't Spain you know?

Nothing on this scale ever happens between English clubs, you get a policemen with minor injuries and about 3 people arrested at the max.

I guess, not on this scale. But riots where people are seriously injured still happen in England.

England isn't as bad because they control it most the time.

But places like you see fans fighting in scotland like that shows well, why wasn't they supported with enough officers and why was the fans breaking the law?

That's well bad, especially when they all gang up on that one policeman they tripped up. Fans are bound to be angry after they have lost the game but that's still no excuse.

I lol'ed at Rangers. Before the game I was fine with them, what with them being Protestants etc... (Only true football fans know the link :rolleyes:).
One copper lost his footing when around 20,000 were running down by Pics and around 30-40 people kicked him and stuff, they're like a pack of wolves, it was on Youtube. My mate who is a Rangers fan went last night, he actourly got involved in the rioting... :rolleyes:

And the Rangers fans killed the screen themselves. At first it was not they're fault it broke but when the tech guy went to fix it they chucked bottles at him so he stopped.
