Jesus Christ - you're all naive enough to use this against supporters of a successful club. Grow up!

If they went to games people wouldn't say so much.
*whistles*
You could be from Manchester and support Manchester City :cool_blue
I don't mind United supporters living/being born a good way away from Manchester. Its just when those fans taunt the fans of lower, local clubs.
At least somebody speaks some sense :) +Rep.
When I went to Liverpool, I seen fans coming from as far as us to go see Liverpool and I thought "Good on them, travelling all that way to see their team" but on the other hand I thought "If they put that much effort into supporting Liverpool, why not any other club." If their fans said nout and argued with Liverpool fans and not be like "HAHA, Championship". When they live like 20 miles from the team it would be different.
yes you do :s
well it's stupid if you live down south and support them and don't even make an attempt to go to any games.
It's jealousy
I agree that you don't have to live in Manchester, but to do be a proper fan you do need to know the history of the club, be dedicated enough to watch the club if possible and actually pay attention to the scores. Some people on Wednesday night who supported United didn't know it was the third time they'd won it and some had to ask for the score, which is ridiculous in my opinion.
I live down south and support Everton, I know my knowledge on the team and I love watching them play football. I do come from close to liverpool so I guess I'm cheating, but you don't have to be from Manc to support Man Utd. You do however, need to know your teams history because yes, there was a time before Sir Alex Fergeson and yes that must be hard to understand.
In my opinion, there's a large base of glory supporters on Man Utd because they believe they'll always win and then they can always brag. They're the people I think aren't supporters, they're just idiots parading around and I find them annoying.
So true, you don't need to come from Manchester... you need to come from Salford. Manchester is blue.
I live in rotherham and support liverpool , may be because ive got several family members who do and one of them taught me how to play football when i was 4 and got me the yellow kit :P
the point of this thread is obvious
you can support any team you want, no matter where you live.
When I was growing up I was brought up as a Liverpool fan, but as I live 5-odd hours away, and never got to any games, I kind of went off them, and now I support my local team, which have only just got promoted from the Blue Square North, Kettering Town. To be honest, the atmosphere is incredible in the terraces. One of the best things about supporting them is I can go and see a decent, fast-paced game of football every week for a fiver.
I don't have anything against any fan supporters but as we're on the topic of Man UTD, I hate their excuses of "Just cuz we're biggest club" "Just cuz he won the league" It's like yeah.. now get over it.
If you go to games you don't have to be from Manchester. Although, there is another argument by saying why go see Man Utd every week when there's loads of other clubs?
No you don't, but in my opinion it only makes you a plastic Man United fan. A true fan would have to be born in Manchester for me.
And how is that in any way being naive?
'Cos if someone supports a successful club, you go "plastic fan, don't go to games" etc etc.
Like me - I support Arsenal but I've been unable to go to games because of financial issues and me being the only sport-fanatic in my immediate family. Does that make me a plastic fan? Just because Arsenal haven't won anything in a couple of years does that not make me a plastic fan even though they are a big side?
It's community rules that only swing one way towards successful clubs. Does it mean that I have to come from Havant to support Havant & Waterlooville? Nah, thought you'd change your tune on that one. Sort it out.
No, you have to come from Waterlooville.
If someone were to come from Manchester to see Havant they are going to see a less successful where as if they go and see Man U play from Havant, they are just travelling for success when they can support Portsmouth, Southampton or even Havant.
This raises my other point about successful teams. If you pay to go and see Derby every week (£30) then you're paying to watch the team you support loose. Some people are not going to keep on and on and on paying that amount of money to watch their favoured team loose - hence why they support big teams - hence why the big teams are big - hence why the big teams have a big fan base. What's wrong with supporting a successful club? I live in Bentley, Doncaster. Does that mean instead of going to watch Rovers play I should be watching Bentley Colliery FC (Village Team) play? If I don't, am I a glory supporter?
i love manu and im from Scotland xD
im from manchester and i suppost Manchester United.
but i guess its true, you dont have to be in manchester to support United.
although i guess, if you live far away you cant go to the parade (that has been postponed :( )
it's true though:
manchester united = greater manchester
manchester city = manchester
