New Rule

Hi,

I think we should have a new rule stating that people cannot post commenting on other people spelling/grammars mistakes made in the post. In retrospec its a form of bullying if you keep posting postituantly about that person saying "Ow you cant even speak english" , "You have grammar of a 3 year old", that is all forms of bullying. Also some people cant help there spelling and grammar becuase of things like disletcia and other things. Also, the people commenting with theese comments seem to do this is alot of threads trying to cause arguments within the thread and attacking the person who created the thread.

So your comments please?

Just report the posts instead of replying to them and we'll deal with them if they are inappropriate.

Some reasons I have are just pointless, nothing to do with the thread and that nick- person doesn't have a clue what pointless comments are.

On topic: Grammar I agree, it is a term of bullying saying you can't speak english etc...
This forum for some strange reason allows it to happen.

I hope what ---MAD--- said makes the forum better and not worse.

well grammar and spelling are something that you've been taught since age 4, so if you cant speak it, you should prepare yourself to be corrected. i would expect someone to correct me if i got mine wrong.

Erm, and no there shouldn't be a rule. People should use the correct spelling and grammar.

No, because you could insult someone on just about everything, meaning we'd have to have numerous rules...

The rule about not insulting people in general covers it, so there's no need for a new rule.

Youngsters are taught correct spelling and grammar from age 4, like I said. Therefore they should apply it for forum use as well as real life use. I'm sure they don't 'spk lyk dis in real lyfe mayte' or any of that crap.

I have to say that the 'grammar' police do annoy me. Lots of different people from lots of different countries use this forum and English may not be their first language. Also some people's english is not as good as others or they could be dyslexic? Personally I think it is either a symptom of a compulsive
obsessive disorder to want everybody to have a high standard of grammar or
its a cheap jibe when somebody wants to insult another but can't think what to say. :P

As people before have said though - rules about insulting others cover it,
although the consequences of embarrassing members on the forum could be looked into.

No, not really. It is annoying when people just start arguments over grammar, it doesn't prove your better, but wen derz sum1 that tokz lyk dis nd u cnt undrstand them, which I do :P then I think it's okay to tell them to write it in English if you can't understand it..

I agree, but i think people should make an effort, whether it's their first language or not. ppl tlking lyk dis rly annoys me on a forrum. However, when instant messaging someone in a converssation it's fine as you may want to get your message across quickly.

There, their, your, you're, borrow and lend are the ones thet get to me.

i just think text speak should be banned from the forum
it is un-needed. i know of no character limit on one post, so its not like you have to condense what you are saying, and it just looks stupid. and for those of us who do have more than 10 brain cells, it can be hard to understand. i know i have some problems when it comes to deciphering it

See, that could be used as an insult too. Doesn't mean its harmful. I don't like the idea of adding new rules, its too messed up and complicated as it is. But I do agree, grammar police are annoying.

I agree and I feel it is demeaning to the member. This isn't school. Sure you can't use text talk there but this is an online forum where people hopefully like to be free of the grammar rules.

Net and text speak should be allowed, this is an online forum and people our age do talk like that online, obviously not to the extremes where it is unreadable. As long as the common net/text words are used then it should be fine. As Catzsy said, this isn't school, you would think an online forum would be an excuse to escape it for interesting discussions amoungst people roughly the same age. It's like the moderators/management's reason behind users not allowed to say "stupid," "idiot," "moron," "imbesile," "twit," "dick," "*****," "piss," "arse," "***" and a hundred other acceptable words in teen culture, but not allowed in school. A quick news flash to that reasoning, this isn't school and the management, nor the moderators are NOT teachers, they're teenagers just like the rest of us, which is what they should be aiming to be. Nothing is more frustrating than people pretending to be something they're not.

tbh it is annoying when know it alls correct your spelling and judge you on spelling mistakes, I agree to an extent, but i dont think they should be punished.

IMPO, it comes under "trolling" because it contributes nothing to the thread and is only there to start arguments. Trolling is an instantly punishable offence by way of caution/banning, so creating another rule wouldn't really serve to do much

The parts in bold back up the point. Rarely, if ever, does someone comment on spelling without the intention to cause or continue an argument. It is often used when a person has been defeated in a logical argument and wants to find a way to carry it on to save themselves from looking like they've been beaten.

Yeah it is annoying and some people actually say other people have bad grammar and they are bad at it themselves.

In retrospect it’s a form of bullying and if you keep posting negatively about that person saying "Oh you can’t even speak English" or "You have the grammar skills of a 3 year old", those are all forms of bullying. Some people can’t help their spelling and grammar because of things like dyslexia and other learning disabilities. Also, the people responding with these negative comments seem to start arguments within the thread, attacking the creator.

What are your comments on this?

I can't help it; I could hardly understand what he had written. It may not be perfect, but it's a lot better than it was before.

Okay well I think if somebody is always correcting somebody's grammar they are essentially baiting somebody so that is covered. Also there is a rule about insulting people which also covers it but I feel this thread is important because it has highlighted a problem that some members may just be 'suffering' in silence about it. :)

Didn't read thread blah blah blah but yeah I voted no because it's not something you should actually legislate, just have it discouraged. People already think that saying it is stupid, so making people feel stupid for saying it to someone else is a much better deterrent than a warning

Thanks for the replies everyone! Especially Catzy! I wasnt trying to paticually say about making it a rule, i just was trying to make the fact highlighted we HAVE a problem with this on the forum and that somthing needs sorting about it.
