TehUpload ~ Updates

I haven't posted anything about TehUpload here in the past bit, but I thought I might keep you updated, as Habbox Forum is the biggest referrer to the site as well as biggest user.

This may be a bunch of technical jarbal to you, but you can read through if you like.

File Size Upgrade

I have just now upgraded the filesize limit to be 10485760 bytes.. and in English.. that is 10MB. This should solve the problem of frozen applications when uploading massive screens.

File Hosting

Coming soon.. file hosting :) Just keep a lookout.

Fileservers & Caching

I have recently upgraded our file system, and added another server to the file servers, that way the files are going to be distributed equally among the file servers for faster loading.

Each fileserver is also in connection with the cache server, which is called before the fileserver, to speed up the service.

Image Magick

I have now installed ImageMagick on the server today, after a short maintenance break to speed up the service. The thumbnail images are now stored onsite, which allows for faster loading on the 'Latest Images' page, and all other pages that use thumbnails.

Status System

I have also installed a maintenance system that allows me to take the site and/or images offline, so that no confusion is made when maintenance is happening. That way no errors appear on the site.

Desktop Application

The desktop application is going to go through a few upgrades, with the addition of a 'Current Window' feature, which takes a screenshot of the current window open.

I may introduce hotkeys to take screenshots, but that is if I get time, I may introduce this in a later version.

Open a Month

We have now officially been open one month (today actually was the first day of service for this new system) and we are now hosting 1671 files on the system, with over 8,607 unique visitors.

If you are going to contact me, or report a file, please enter a valid e-mail, there is no way I can question/help you.. if you enter an invalid e-mail address.

I'm not too fond of the current design.

But sounding great! Drop us a PM when the application is all upgraded.

I'll try to post it on the forum when I have an application upgrade, as a lot of the users of the app come from here :)

I'm not too fond of the design either, but I guess that is what I have to work with.

How does your sig know I have used tehupload :p i think that is really cool

I am currently working on a complete new desktop application.

If you use it, you see the "Upload File" screen allows you to upload one file at a time.

This new screen allows you to drag a whole bunch of files into an area, and it seperates them into a list.. which allows you to view them.. remove them.. then select the ones you want to upload :)

Should integrate a nice screenshot feature where when you press the screenshot button, asks you for confirmation of upload (shows screenshot, little yes/no) and either uploads your file automatically returning a URL or doesn't... I made an application like that as it was annoying always having to save the screenshot, then upload it.

That is what I am doing, the screenshot feature is already in the current version, it just doesn't include the Yes/No feature. Thanks for the idea :)

Sexy stuff. You've come a long way in desktop programming so you programmed this in... visual c++?

This is coded in Visual Studio (C#)

I thought I would post some new previews ^_^. I have added the screen capture utility, to take a screenshot, and as Protege suggested I have added a Yes/No feature, that way you can decide if you want to upload it or not.

Next, is select area. :)

It's not that much, RapidVPS offered me the HTTPAccelerator system which seperates all the requests to seperate Rapid.Ones/Twos, and I have noticed it being at least 10x faster.

Since I am planning on expanding to offer file hosting, I want to get the system setup now.

You would be better off buying a low spec dedicated than buying multiple VPSes

The site is pretty slow and the apps are pointless really.

Theres too much on the home page it should just be a simple browse > upload > view.

Well at the moment I don't have that much money to spend ;)

The application is "not pointless really", I'm 90% sure you haven't tried it.. and I have had over 800 downloads in the time it has been on the site (under a month) and 75% of the uploads come from the application.

There are numerous users on this site and others that use the application and love it.

That might just be your opinion, but if you don't know much about the application, and it's new features, then you don't have much room to stand.

I am currently working on a "Browse->Upload->View" method, for Low-Res/Mobile phones (iPod Touch, etc).

How is there too much on the homepage.. there are three boxes..

[upload boxes]

That is pretty damn simple.. unless you are stupid..? I mean.. you can clearly see the upload boxes.. how hard is that? all you click is browse..

Yeah but still whats all the intro for? Most people would already know what to do just select and upload.. No one really cares for all the info.

Last time I took it off, people complained:

"How do I know how much I can upload? what is the file size limits? blablabla"

"What can I upload? what file formats are allowed? I found a file I want to report.. what do I do?"

So if I take it off.. more people complain.. hence why it is there.. it's pretty simple to use.. if you don't want to read it.. don't..

The file upload boxes are in plain site, you can just put your eyes there.

Anyways, the Twitter script was keeping the page from loading, so I have moved the script tags to the bottom, which sped up the index page instantly.

So If you were finding yourself being 'slowed down' while loading, this was the reason.

You can't upload files using mobile phones? I can't on my iPhone..

If it supports HTML, it should. I can on my XV6700, which has Internet Explorer.. hmm.
