Student killed in street stabbing

A school student has become the 17th teenager to be killed in London this year after being fatally stabbed.
Ben Kinsella, believed to be 16, was attacked during a row with a group of youths in York Way, in Holloway.
He was taken to hospital for treatment following the attack at about 0200 BST, but died several hours later. Two youths have been arrested.
Ben's sister, Brooke Kinsella - who played Kelly Taylor in the BBC soap EastEnders - said she was "devastated".
Police have urged any witnesses are to come forward.
'Pool of blood'
It is thought that Ben was at a party in a local pub when the row broke out with several youths. A witness who saw him after the attack said: "His shirt had been pulled up and I could see red marks all over his stomach and then what looked like a wound and there was a pool of blood next to him.


"There were ambulance men putting an oxygen mask on him and trying to help him."
One of the victim's friends said he made a desperate phone call minutes before he died.
The teenager, who did not want to be named, said: "He called me on the phone and just said 'Help'.
"He sounded really scared and then it just clicked off."


Brooke Kinsella, 24, her parents Debbie and George and her boyfriend, former EastEnders actor Ray Panthaki, were among those who paid their respects at the murder scene.
The actress Linda Robson also laid flowers at the scene.
Bob Hamlyn, Ben's headteacher at Holloway School, paid tribute to the popular student who came from "a lovely family".
"They are a lovely family and they are very supportive at school," he said.
"He was a bright kid, very high achieving academically, and would have had some very good results to look forward to this summer.
"He was also very sporty and had everything to live for, but that has been taken away from him now." In 2007, 27 teenagers were killed in the city - the worst year on record for teenage deaths.

if i lived in London i would carry a knife for sure.

Thats such a shame though, its always young people with lives to live.

It always happens in London because most areas there are scum.

It's not only in London, it's just it gets reported on if it's there. There was a stabbing here last week.

London aint no scum, certain parts are yeah but most of London is beautiful.
We have alot of gang crime in London, and it is the capital its intitled to it, terriable as it may seem Gang's wont stop - they ruin alot of events down here where I live in my part of London and sometimes you wish you never lived there but its not scary lol like papers make it out to be..

An trust me you wouldn't carry a knife, its not that much of a biggie really. It's not like everywhere you turn you get kicked, stabbed or shot - and trust me because I don't live in the nicest area.
People in gangs carry knives or when they plan to use them, and there usually used for postcodes, if you go into the wrong place then yeah you could get stabbed - some postcodes and boroughs dont get on.

But it's seriously getting out of hand, i actualy wouldn't even go to london for the day never mind living there, something does need too happen to make kids seriously realise that knife crime is horrible and pathetic.

Aha, it aint that bad promise!
There doin TV shows all week this week about London kids on BBC channels or C4 I forgot.. ;) There trying, at least.

I go to London a lot and I've been in Peckham in South London and walked around at night and it's not that bad. People forget this stuff happens in suburban areas. I've lived in the so-called guncrime capital of the UK all my life and I've never been shot. People just overreact to crime without looking at it in context.

I agree, I live in Lewisham one of the bad area's of the UK whilst taking bus rides through Peckham in my school uniform. There is a tackle between postcodes and borough's though that should be stopped, and it do's cause most knife crime.
Most people overlook the stabbing's outside London, they love to put all the blame onto us and make the capital look disgusting. There is no pressure to carry a knife unless your in a gang, or just terrified of the outside world you live in.

i live in london and i dont feel the need to carry a knife :S just use your common sense.. what do you think going up in an argument against a gang of teens will get you? or walking through dark streets at night with bright white headphones in? use common sense and keep your wits about you and you wont get mugged or stabbed..

That is actually kinda true. I live in croydon (has the highest teenage pregnany rate in europe, and has a lot 'stabbings' and youthy crime n stuff) but ive never been robbed, even though my friends have, it doesnt happen to everyone. Although those bad people are like everywhere, but if you dont get involved with them, they dont do anythin to do except rob you. Nothing to do with killing.

London is popular, its the capital so obviously they'll be more knife crime.
Things happen where I live, it dosn't bother me as long as it don't happen to me. Once my sister was on a bus and 3 black girls came on hitting her and punching her but no one on the bus did anything. It's just if your lucky or not. I do admit London crime, is pathetic nowdays if you look at someone in the wrong way you can get in a fight. An people who live in Lewisham, Peckham, New Cross, Greenwich and Croydon would know that.

Yeah it is true, but sometimes they pick fights. Even at school.

They push in the line. Me "what you doin, i was there" *push them out* then they get pissed off and it just becomes something stupid.

Yeah agree'd, but its things like that, that need to be stopped.
Alot of my friends have fights in school then carry them on after school where like everyone watch's - thats when it get's violent.

Most of the time these things happen where you'd expect them to: outside pubs, down alleyways, on streets at night. Rarely is it on Oxford Street in the middle of the day. And, as said, people complain about it but when they see it happening they don't do anything. Phoning the police is obviously too strenuous a task, it's far easier to moan about it to a newspaper.

Of course they wouldn't do anything, its to risky nowday's so sitting there complaining is the only way out.
Its school crime, that most South East London school's are rough and so are plenty of the other side, causing there to be alot of knife crime in and outside of school.
Some people are stupid though as said by Cocaine, you wouldn't walk down a dark alley or outside a pub at night with white ipod headphones sticking out your ears and your top nosh phone out texting someone..
Some case's its common sense. People exagerate London, think they have it all worked out - but you dont know London till you've lived there or at least been there more then once.
